Lisa Spery
Lisa hails from the small town of Atlantic, Pennsylvania, where she grew up on a large chicken farm with a very musical and performance-inclined family. She began dance lessons at 5 years old, piano lessons at 9, and theatre in high school, playing Laurie in Oklahoma! during her senior year. She then went on to get a double degree from the Honors College of the University at Buffalo, with a BFA in Theatre Performance and a BA in Music. She was fortunate enough to be directed by Tony-nominated Stephen McKinley Henderson with the role of Rachel in Lucy Thurber's Scarcity.
In NYC, Lisa studied at all three of the big improv theatres: The People's Improv Theatre, The Upright Citizen's Brigade, and Magnet Theatre. During this time, she took jazz piano lessons and studied how to play piano for musical improv from Jody Shelton, who was also her coach for her indie musical improv team, Good Catch.
Since moving to Austin, she has taken classes at the Hideout Theatre, ColdTowne Theatre, and Merlin Works, and performs regularly with ComedySportz Austin and LOL Comedy ATX. She is also gearing up to take classes at The Seed starting in February.
Lisa is looking forward to dogging around with the corniest kids in town! π½πΆπ§πΌ
